Class Trailer 2: Toxic Avenger (1986)

.Name of film: Toxic Avenger
.Year released: 1986
.Genre of trailer: Comedy horror

In the trailer for Toxic Avenger we see the main character ‘Melvin’ get teased resulting in falling into nuclear waste. After the accident we see Melvin change into the toxic avenger. The trailer then goes on to show various bits of the film and Melvin killing various villains. This trailer is a highlights trailer. One positive about this trailer is that it makes the narrative clear straight away. This lets the audience know roughly what they are in for and if it appeals to them or not. This trailer also effectively sells that it is going to have some very strong body horror in it as we see two heads being smashed together in the trailer. On the other hand, this trailer contains no suspense. This can be quite off putting for a horror audience fan base as they like to be scared. It also shows too much of the film. I feel after watching the three and a half minute trailer I do not need to see the film as I know what happens throughout. Three and a half minutes is too long for a trailer especially for a ‘highlights’ trailer and the voice over constantly says ‘The Toxic Avenger’ which is very tedious and off putting towards then end. Overall I gave this trailer a six out of ten. It clearly sets the narrative but it is too long and shows too much of the film. This trailer has helped verify that I will not be using a voice over in my own trailer.
